Strawberry Picking at Southern Belle Farm

Ryan and I went to Southern Belle Farm last year to get the last of their blueberries and some fresh flowers, and we decided to return this year to pick strawberries, and found our new favorite BBQ spot nearby! For more fruit picking farms and things to do this spring, read my guide of everything to this spring!

I was so excited to visit in the spring- blueberry season was hot, and the pleasant weather we’ve been having was so much more pleasant than a summer day in Georgia!

Southern Belle farm, which is an hour away from Atlanta in McDonough, is a 330 acre working farm that has U-Pick options year round- I think strawberry season is my favorite one yet! They also have farm animals to see and a new section for children, a market, and a bakery with fresh ice cream and cobbler.

Strawberry season is well underway, so if you want to go pick some, go now! I recommend checking their website before you go- they announce their availability each day. The farm can get really busy- I recommend showing up around twenty minutes before opening time, especially if you want to get photos in the fields. We went on a Sunday, when they open at 1 PM so we wouldn’t have to get up too early, haha!

We bought one plastic container of strawberries which was plenty for the two of us, haha! I actually flew home to Maryland with a whole zip-lock baggie of strawberries in my backpack because I had so many leftover, haha! It gets warm in the fields, so I would recommend bringing sunscreen (or applying it before you leave) and a water bottle of ice water in the car.

You can’t visit Southern Belle farm without getting some sweet snacks- we got the strawberry ice cream, strawberry shortcake, and slushie (definitely overkill but no regrets!). All were amazing, but the strawberry shortcake was definitely the winner!

We decided to get lunch before heading home, and stumbled upon one of my favorite BBQ places, ever just a few miles away: Smokehouse Depot. The pulled pork and Brunswick stew were AMAZING! Definitely our new go-stop for when we visit Southern Belle Farm- the food was freshly smoked and tasted homemade.

It was the perfect Sunday afternoon- fresh strawberries, tasty barbeque and a cold treat…or two! 😉 If you’re looking for the perfect Sunday spring afternoon in Georiga, stopping at Southern Belle Farm to pick strawberries with a BBQ sandwich after is the top of my list!
