Going to Oakland cemetery with Ryan was probably one of the weirder dates we’ve been on, haha! I read about Oakland and wanted to see the grave of Margaret Mitchell and explore the neighborhood of Cabbagetown/ Grant Park a bit more.
The cemetery is full of beautiful gardens and worth the short stop if you are in the area. It is a Victorian cemetery- the architecture is breathtaking. The original six acres are one of the oldest plots of land in the city. The cemetery is full of history- it is a place where civil war soldiers fought and were buried, and other famous Atlantans, including Bobby Jones and Maynard Jackson are also buried there. They also have tours if you are interested in learning more about the history of the graves.

Next time I go, I would like to go for a festival- the cemetery has a Gone With the Wind Anniversary Tour, Yoga in the Bell Tower, flashlight tours, an annual Victorian street festival, Halloween tours, and more!
We decided to go for brunch after our visit, and stopped at Ria’s Bluebird. Their banana pancakes were famously called “the world’s best pancakes” by the New York Times. They were so good! They have a great area to sit outside, and the decor around the restaurant is very fun and artsy.
